DeepRacer Hackathon

At BTI360, one of our core behaviors is growing each day. We are always seeking to grow as individuals and as software engineers. We love to explore new technologies, so we can continue to bring innovative solutions to our customers.

At the end of July, we hosted a company hackathon to learn more about reinforcement learning. While we had originally planned to host the event in person, we opted for a virtual event to keep our team safe. Participants created and trained machine learning models from the comfort of home. When the models were ready to test in the real world, volunteers loaded the models onto AWS DeepRacer cars in our Ashburn office. The results were streamed via Twitch.

We had our share of crashes, but as the night wore on the models got better and better. The fastest time around the track was 9.78 seconds. Not bad for one evening of hacking, and only a couple of hours to train the models!
