Meet the 2023 Interns

Catherine / June 12, 2023 in

For thirteen years, we’ve had the privilege of welcoming a handful of students to the BTI360 team for our summer internship program. We’ve loved watching our interns develop their personal and professional skills in our people-oriented program, and this year is no different. This summer our interns will create a working application, attend technical and leadership workshops, and engage in fun, team-building activities.

Let’s meet them!

SOFIA

William & Mary
What made you choose BTI360? What stood out to me most was the company culture and the opportunities to learn during the College Hire Program.
If you had to choose one book to recommend to everyone you meet, what would it be? The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. I’d love to be able to read it again for the first time.
What’s your programming pet peeve? My pet peeve is error messages that tell me nothing and don’t help me fix the problem.
Favorite thing to do in your free time? I love to read and hang out with my friends. I’ve also started to enjoy running!

MICHAEL

Duke University
What made you choose BTI360? Relationships are always my top priority. I heard from current BTI teammates how much the company cares about each person’s well-being, and that meant a lot to me. Now that I’m at BTI, I know that’s true.
If you had to choose one book to recommend to everyone you meet, what would it be? “All the Light We Cannot See.” It’s inspiring and makes you appreciate your own place in life.
If you could choose any famous person (alive or historical) to be your pair programming partner, who would it be and why? I’d choose Gordon Ramsay for sure. I just know being called a “donkey” while I’m coding would optimize my efficiency.
Favorite thing to do in your free time? I love anything outdoors, especially playing sports like basketball and golf. I also enjoy hiking and tubing.

ARKAN

University of Maryland
What made you choose BTI360? I chose BTI360 because I really appreciated the care they show towards their team and how we aren’t just cogs in a machine.
What do you listen to while you code? I listen to Lofi.
Favorite code editor? Visual Studio Code is my favorite code editor.
If you were a software engineer in a video game, what special abilities or power-ups would you have? I would choose the ability to instantly absorb information from documentation.

VINYA

University of Virginia
What made you choose BTI360? I chose BTI360 because I knew it would be a great place to grow as a person and a software engineer.
What do you listen to while you code? I love listening to Taylor Swift while I code!
Tabs or spaces? Tabs
Fun fact about you? I have a twin sister.

BRAYDEN

University of Maryland
What made you choose BTI360? I chose BTI360 because of the culture. I also like how they emphasize developing their people both personally and professionally.
In your opinion, what’s the best data structure? The best data structure is a Hash Map. Just throw a hash map at it.
What do you listen to while you code? I listen to Lofi, K-pop, or Electronic. It just depends on the day.
Favorite code editor? My favorite code editor is VSCode.

JILL

Swarthmore College
What are you most looking forward to learning about this summer? I’m excited to finally work on a real dev team!
What do you listen to while you code? I listen to video game soundtracks and remixes of video game soundtracks. They’re deliberately designed to motivate action without distracting you from it.
If you were a software engineer in a video game, what special abilities or power-ups would you have? I think the closest analogy for what I have in mind is the scene in the Lego Movie where Emmett gains his master builder powers. I want to be able to do that with code.
Favorite thing to do in your free time? I love to draw and paint!

COREY

University of Maryland
What are you most looking forward to learning about this summer? I’m most looking forward to learning frontend.
In your opinion, what’s the best data structure? The best data structure is hashmaps for everything.
If you were a software engineer in a video game, what special abilities or power-ups would you have? My special ability would be writing flawless code.
What’s your programming pet peeve? My programming pet peeve is syntax errors.
